Frejn's Inferno at the Sonnenkopf Valley Station, 29.01.2005,
Kloesterle am Arlberg
There were bad omen preceding this year's Inferno. Three days before
the race there was still an avalanche danger of four degrees, a very high
risk of avalanche. The crew of organizers had to set the route but didn't
know for which one to settle. Moreover, changing weather conditions were
announced for the following days.

The avalanche report from Saturday, 29th January 2005 contained a warning
of avalanche danger third degree, but we had two routes prepared in safe
areas. A road-block on the Rheintal highway caused several participants
to arrive too late for the start, even if it was postponed for half an
hour.
The
first descend to the Nenzigast Valley was won by Ralf Castelberg from
Switzerland, on his Rad Air Longboard. The beginning of the route was
flat and became even slower due to the ice-cold weather, but it was
perfect for the long-board.
The way back to the Valley Station was also very tiring because of
the cold weather, as the boards couldn't gain any speed.
The second descend started under the Glattingrat in North-Western
direction. Due to strong winds to the East, the snow was blown away
and the bare granite rocks were too dangerous to be raced on. This time,
Castelberg was the first from the beginning and had free space on the
slippery ice part coming up 500 m after the start. The following group
of racers had been slowing each other down and came to a full stop in
this area. The riders had to unfasten at least one foot to manage the
slope. After a longer descend in free land, the route took them to a
forest area and then to a narrow and steep ditch. From here they rode
on the ski slope, down to the finish line where the participants had
to throw in the start balls under the Red Bull tent.
After adding both descend results, the following winners were nominated:
Boys
1. Castelberg Ralph
2. Huber Philipp Alexander
2. Von Bank Christoph

Girls
1. Bodner Daniela
1. Nadine Dobry
3. Schweighofer Sigrid
